Oscar Winner on Tour with the Flickerfest National Tour

February 28, 2005

WASP, which screened as part of Flickerfest, Bondi Beach, Sydney also scooped the Fujifilm Special Jury Award and screened too much critical acclaim from the audience many of who commented on being moved by this short
film for its turbulent yet touching depiction of the life of a single mum.

On winning this award at Flickerfest in January Andrea managed to send us a few words from the UK "Thanks so very much to the Flickerfest Jury for awarding WASP with the Special Jury Prize. It was an incredibly tough film to make for many reasons, four small kids in almost every scene and very little time to shoot. The cast and crew worked very hard to get it made and its very nice to get our efforts recognised'.

For those of you who missed experiencing WASP and any of the other multi- award winning films that screened as part of our 10 day short film extravaganza at Bondi Beach you still have the opportunity of catching the tour now in its final month of touring.

Flickerfest is one of the only short film festivals that travels around Australia reaching secluded regional audiences and main centres with a unique programme of the best of the worlds and Australian shorts.

Festival Director, Bronwyn Kidd said "We see this as an extremely important and defining factor for the festival that audiences around the country can experience a truly unique range of short films not otherwise available and engage with independent cinema of an extremely high international standard."

The Flickerfest National Tour has already screened to full capacity in many of its venues most recently Canberra and Brisbane who both recorded a huge increase in audience attendance.

The tour is screening some of the best international short films from around the world, including Oscar Winner, WASP (UK) and the multi award winning TWO CARS ONE NIGHT (NZ), 7: 35 IN THE MORNING (SPAIN) and the Australian short BIRTHDAY BOY which was recently awarded with a BAFTA in London for Best Animated Short.

Also screening is the immensely popular short and winner of the prestigious Coopers Award for Best Film, The Scree directed by Paul McDermott.
