Australia's Premier Short Film Festival Opens To A Star-Studded Audience

HG Nelson (aka Greig Pickhaver) known as one half of the comedic duo Roy & HG, will entertain guests prior to Festival Director, Bronwyn Kidd who will officially welcom the star-studded audience.

Actors Nicholas Bishop, Alyssa McClelland, Jacqueline McKenzie, Barry Otto, Peter Phelps together with TV starts Andrew G, Dr Katrina Warren, Damian de Montemas, Renee Brack and singer Tiffani Wood will all witness the first screening of 8 short films from around the world, all which make up International Programme 1.

Making up the part of the programme in 2005 is five special sessions featuring a cultural spotlight on Mexico, a Beachside Horror programme, Hall of Fame programme showcasing award winners from the last eight years, a selection of music clip shorts from legendary UK Electronic label Warp Records and a programme dedicated to showcasing the very best of animation shorts from Annecy, an international film festival dedicated entirely to animation.

This year Flickerfest has received a record 980 entries from all around the world and with four competitive programmes being a highlight of the festival, International, Australian and Short Documentary filmmakers are all vying for a share of the cash and other prestigious industry prizes that are announced on closing night, Sunday January 16. This year for the first time ever in Australia, the Jameson Short Film Award valued at 6,000 euros, will be awarded at Flickerfest 2005.

Flickerfest, now in its fourteenth year, has fast become one of the most prestigious festivals in Australia and offers actors, directors and producers alike an opportunity to present new and innovative ideas to the film world.
